The "Duck Dynasty" clan isn't the draw it used to be. Not even in the Bible Belt.

Promoters announced last month that members of the Robertson family would appear at a show titled "Faith, Family & Ducks" at an 11,000-seat arena in Springfield, Mo.

For $37, $50 or $58, fans could enjoy live music and hear the bayou millionaires talk about "living the American dream" while staying true to their "family values and modest lifestyle."

But according to local media reports, the April 27 event has been canceled due to low ticket sales.
The golden era for the A&E reality series appears to be over. Ratings for last month's season five finale were down almost 30 percent from the previous year.

The season opened to disappointing ratings a month after the family's patriarch, Phil Robertson, made racist and homophobic remarks in an interview with GQ.

A&E briefly suspended Robertson before capitulating to conservatives like Sarah Palin and Bobby Jindal.

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (AP) - Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is scheduled to be in Alabama next week.

Palin will speak at an event organized by the Baldwin County Republican Party on April 25 at the Wharf in Orange Beach.

The former Alaska governor last visited Baldwin County on May 3, 2011, when she delivered a speech to the Exceptional Foundation.

Palin has pursued a career as a political commentator, public speaker and author since running with John McCain in 2008.

Why does Sarah Palin hate Sylvia Burwell so much?

 President Obama may have had troubles with the Healthcare.gov rollout, but he’s rolling out a replacement for departing Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius nicely. Appointing Sylvia Mathews Burwell, who was confirmed last year to head the Office of Management and Budget 96-0, virtually insures he’ll get someone into Sebelius’ seat before midterm politics heat up.

That doesn’t mean the right won’t try to throw garbage at the centrist and well-respected Burwell. On PJ Tatler today they’re calling her “the person who shut down the veterans’ memorials,” because as OMB chief, she signed the memo telling agencies “to execute plans for an orderly shutdown due to the absence of appropriations” when Sen. Ted Cruz and the GOP shut down the government last year.

You’ll recall that Cruz and the right had the audacity to blame Obama and the Democrats for the shutdown, which backfired on them spectacularly. But not before Cruz, Sarah Palin and a Confederate-flag-waving moron challenged the closure of the World War II veterans’ memorial with a protest that moved to the White House, where Larry Klayman told President Obama “to put the Quran down … and come out figuratively with your hands up.” Good times.

So yeah, they’re going to try that whole thing again, but it’s not going to work. (An aside: this NBC News story calls Burwell “the woman who ordered the government shutdown,” which at the time probably seemed like a feature writer’s flourish to pull people into a dull story about the OMB director, but in hindsight didn’t accurately describe the way the mess unfolded.)  Sen. John McCain immediately tweeted, “Sylvia Burwell is an excellent choice to be the next #HHS Secretary.” While righties are hoping that red state Democrats will turn on the woman who supposedly ordered the shutdown of veterans’ memorials, Sen. Joe Manchin praised Burwell’s appointment, too. (It probably helps that she’s from West Virginia.)

On the larger question of Sebelius’ legacy, we can only say that millions of people got health insurance, and millions more still need it. Ezra Klein trolled the right by declaring that it means “Obamacare has won,” which is pretty funny given that he helped lead the national freak-out over Healthcare.gov’s troubles back in October. Jonathan Cohn has a more balanced take in the New Republic. He acknowledges Sebelius’ management mistake in letting the federal exchange website’s troubles mount without letting the president know – there’s evidence she herself didn’t know – but he appropriately notes she’ll be remembered for the millions newly insured, particularly because she worked hard with Republican governors who bucked conservative constituencies to expand Medicaid.

Of course, confirming Burwell won’t mean the GOP stops trying to sabotage the Affordable Care Act. They had mostly stopped blaming Sebelius, because the new talking points say nobody could have made the law work, because by definition it can’t work. Having done everything in their power to insure it can’t work, which is literally costing American lives, they blame Obama for its shortcomings. However brilliant an HHS pick she may be, Sylvia Burwell can’t change that.

No one has a problem with Sylvia Burwell.  Except for one person:

Yesterday was Track's birthday.  Above is the most recent picture there is of him.

I don't know what Track is doing nowadays as he keeps quite unlike the rest of his family but at 25 he is already divorced, has a kid, hasn't finished school, has had drug problems.  I do not hold out much hope for him.

Hey Bristol Palin this is the proper way to start a family

As you all are aware by now Chelsea Clinton and her husband Marc Mezvinsky are expecting a baby.

Chelsea and Marc were married in July 2010.  The baby will be due this fall.

That makes it FOUR years since their marriage that the baby was conceived.

Yes Butthole (and Levi too)  that is the way it should be done.  Track/Britta, Skanky/Turd, Chuck Sr/Sally, Chuck Jr/Bimbo, and Molly/Mike are you listening too?

Baby's parents are college graduates and have careers.  And baby's grandparents are also educated.

Baby is gonna be the only child to have two grandparents that were POTUS.

Congrats Chelsea and Marc!  Thank goodness the Clintons don't prescribe to the Palin/Heath family planning manual.  Get knocked up first, ask questions later, then get married.

Trig Palin turns 6 today

Happy Birthday Trig!  I hope you get to spend time with people who actually love you.

Trig all the readers here at SPHASH love you and want what is best for you.  We cry that you are not getting it.

Yes I am fond of Trig.  That's why I'm so concerned about Babygate and his welfare.  Especially the fact he still wears diapers.

In the picture above you notice Trig is missing a few teeth.  He just turned 6 today.  I don't know when this picture was actually taken cuz the Palins lie all the time but kids usually don't start losing teeth until 6:

You can’t predict when baby teeth fall out. Just as it was impossible to pinpoint exactly when your baby would cut her first tooth, the same holds true for when she’ll lose it. In general, kids who were early teethers tend to lose baby teeth before the rest of their classmates, but for most, six is the age when that first tooth falls out. 

I remember my first tooth fell out the summer between kindergarten and first grade.  I can't see Trig's teeth falling out before age six.

 The PAC also gave $1,000 to leadership PAC of Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas. 
The PAC gave $5,000 to House candidates Katrina Pierson in Texas, and $10,000 to Lizbeth Benacquisto in Florida. 
In non-federal elections, the PAC gave $5,000 to Greg Abbott in the Texas gubernatorial primary, and $3,500 to Gov. Nikki Haley in South Carolina.

Wow Sarah is being generous!  Guess the FEC really came down hard on her regarding giving.

Only one person from AK gave to SarahPac.  Sarah also spent $20,000 on copies of her book.  I bet the remaining PeeZooers were pissed about that.

And it looks like she won't be running for office anytime soon with paltry donations that she is getting.

Sarah Palin hasn't said one word about the shooting at the Jewish Community Center in KS

The shooting was on Sunday where three people died.  But Sarah hasn't offered any condolences.

None.

And it took place in Kansas a red state.

Alaska's problem and what to do about it

How likely are you to be raped? It may be a question of geography. A sobering CNN series of reports Tuesday examined rape statistics across the country and uncovered a wide variety of crime rates – with Alaska clocking in at triple the national average. (Even more shockingly, its child sexual assault rate is six times the national average.) Gov. Sean Parnell calls it “an epidemic.” And statistics paint an incomplete picture, because they only reveal reported rapes. The true rate, in Alaska and nationwide, is likely considerably higher.

CNN’s John D. Sutter, who put together the new series of reports from the state, is not the first to point out Alaska’s alarming incidence of sexual assault – or to try to understand the reasons for it. Last spring, Carey Restino wrote in the Alaska Dispatch that “Boys who witness domestic violence are twice as likely to abuse their own partners and children when they become adults. So here we have a large population of the state being abused, and with every incident, the likelihood that the problem will continue to get worse, generation after generation, increases.” And last fall, Business Insider’s Erin Fuchs examined “Why Rape Is Much More Common in Alaska” and noted that an astonishing 37 percent of Alaskan women report having experienced sexual violence. She also reported that “Native Alaskans make up 61% of rape victims in the state,” though unlocking why the rape rate is so high in the Native American population remains a challenge. Another problem, she pointed out, is Alaska’s ruralness. “Women simply can’t rely on police to come help them if they’re raped,” she wrote. “One 19-year-old Native Alaska woman who lived in a village of 800 called the police after a stranger broke into her home and raped her in the middle of the night, the Times reported in 2012. The police didn’t answer, so she left a message. They never returned her call.”

In CNN, Sutter notes that “at least 75 communities” in the state have no local law enforcement whatsoever, and that help, even when and if it does arrive, almost always takes a very long time. “Much of Alaska,” he says, “is basically lawless.” And if you think the nationwide rate for sexual assault conviction is alarmingly minuscule, imagine living in a place where you can’t even get the cops to come to your door in the first place.

But change is coming. Gov. Parnell has recently been making efforts to expand law enforcement in remote areas, asking for expansions to the Village Public Safety Officers program. They’re a proven deterrent – 

Sutter says, “Rates of serious injury from assaults are also 40% lower in villages with a VPSO.”
Yet in removed, tightly knit communities where sexual assault is often a domestic matter and abuse frequently occurs in the context of generations of learned behavior, it’s going to take more than additional officers to truly stem the tide. Parnell has been spearheading “Choose Respect” rallies across the state to bring the issues of domestic abuse and sexual violence out into the open. Fighting sexual assault takes a three-pronged effort involving money, resources and education. Victims need to know that they will be dealt with promptly and compassionately. Assailants need to know their actions will have serious consequences. And justice belongs in every corner of the nation, for every American, from sea to Bering Sea.

I have some solutions.

For starters Alaska needs a state income tax.  They need a tax to build better roads to these native communities.  They also need funding for more VPSOs, rape crisis centers, judges, and other law enforcement personnel.  The only way to get funding is more taxes.

I know Governor Parnell has been trying to get more funding and Sen Lisa Murkowski has introduced legislation in fighting sex crimes, but it's not enough.

It's alarming that over 1/3 of Alaska's women have been raped or abused.  There is a good chance that Sarah Palin may have been a victim herself.  I wonder if that is the reason she charged rape victims for those kits, an act so outrageous the state legislature banned it.  She must fee if she was a victim, so should all women.  I wrote a post a few years ago about it.

The Alaska Dispatch buys the Anchorage Daily News

The McClatchy Co. announced Tuesday that it has reached an agreement to sell the Anchorage Daily News to Alaska Dispatch Publishing. The transaction is expected to close in May.

"The Anchorage Daily News is a profitable newspaper that makes us proud journalistically," said Pat Talamantes, McClatchy's president and CEO. "We weren't looking to sell the Daily News, but after Alaska Dispatch Publishing approached us, we saw advantages to local ownership in this case and opportunities for consolidation that would strengthen both news organizations."

The Daily News is the largest newspaper in Alaska, and adn.com is the most-read news site in the state.
"We are proud to return the Anchorage Daily News to Alaska ownership once again," said Alice Rogoff, owner of Anchorage-based Alaska Dispatch Publishing LLC, which publishes the AlaskaDispatch.com news website. "Across the country over the past few years, we've seen several daily newspapers successfully transition to local ownership. We look forward to working with the talented team at the Daily News to help build its future."

In a written statement, Rogoff said, "The Anchorage Daily News and Alaska Dispatch play vital roles in our great state. By merging these operations, we can serve as a stronger, even more comprehensive resource for Alaskans for their news and information. Our mission is to offer a level of coverage never before seen in Alaska history, and to offer it to readers across the state through a variety of mediums."

The $34 million purchase includes the newspaper, adn.com and the Daily News' building on Northway Drive in East Anchorage. After the purchase is finalized, the building will be sold to GCI., and the Daily News will be a tenant. Last year, GCI bought KTVA-Channel 11, and the station has been leased space in the building.
Daily News President and Publisher Pat Doyle and Daily News Senior Vice President and Editor Pat Dougherty are both retiring, company officials announced Tuesday.

Rogoff is publisher and chief executive of Alaska Dispatch Publishing and Tony Hopfinger, a former a Daily News reporter who co-founded Dispatch in 2008, is executive editor and president.
Bob Weil, McClatchy's vice president of operations, said the sale was in the best interest of Alaska.

"The decision to sell was based on a desire to enhance journalistic excellence in Alaska," Weil said. "The sale provides an opportunity for both organizations to be more successful over time and will build on their past successes, reaching a larger audience."

At the conclusion of the transaction, McClatchy will publish 29 daily newspapers, and their affiliated print and digital products in 28 U.S. markets in 14 states.

McClatchy acquired an 80 percent ownership stake in the Daily News in January 1979. It represented McClatchy's first publishing foray beyond California's Central Valley.

Over its history, the Anchorage Daily News established a reputation for journalism excellence, winning two Pulitzer Prizes for Public Service, in 1976 and 1989. In recent months, the Daily News added staff and content, and completed a redesign of the newspaper in December that included new sections and features.

Kevin McClatchy, the company's chairman, said, "This is a bittersweet moment for all of us at McClatchy.
We are extremely proud of the Daily News and its employees, their exceptional service to Alaska's diverse communities and all of their contributions to McClatchy over the years. However, this sale not only makes sense from a local ownership perspective, but it also allows McClatchy to focus more resources on accelerating our digital transformation to better serve our communities."

Speaking to Daily News employees, Rogoff said her motivation in purchasing the newspaper was to expand coverage and audience, and that her attitude toward print has evolved.

"When we at the Alaska Dispatch say we've come to realize the value of a newspaper in print, you better believe we've come to realize it. We didn't start out that way. But as we got to know this marketplace and community better, it is obvious that print plays an enormous role in a lot of people's lives."

Alaska Dispatch was founded in 2008. In 2009, Rogoff, a longtime supporter of journalism and a former chief financial officer of U.S. News and World Report, became the majority owner of Alaska Dispatch LLC, and the operation expanded to employ writers, editors, and a full-time sales staff.

Best interest of Alaska.  That is very telling.

Does that mean all the Palingates-Baby, Dairy, House etc will finally be exposed?  Time will tell. 

Now only if the Alaska Dispatch would buy KTUU.

I don't believe Bristol Palin graduated from anything

 We’re so proud that Bristol has been graduated tonight from Penrose Academy in Arizona. She’s heading back to Alaska soon (because she misses the snow, mountains, and her truck!) to continue her work at Dr. Cusack's dermatology practice. It's been a great four years with Doc; he's been an understanding and very patient boss as Bristol has enjoyed many opportunities in addition to her good employment in Anchorage at Alaska Dermatology and Laser Center. We’re happy for her to have finished this challenging, rewarding academy; and now she’s ready to be licensed in “all things skin,” which is what she’s always wanted to do. I’m a huge proponent of trade/tech schools that teach real-world employable skills that reward work ethic and integrity. Smart, employable, debt free, vo-tech grads have good jobs available for them right out of school! Go for it, vo-tech grads! Get out there and work, and change the world for the better!

I will not believe it until I see an official transcript.  Which will be never obviously.

Dumbya sucks at everything, even painting pictures

George W. Bush's painting exhibition opened this weekend at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum in Dallas. Dubya's premiere exhibition revolves around portraits of world leaders from Vladimir Putin to his own father, rendered in Bush's strangely intriguing figurative style.

Art critic Deborah Solomon stopped by HuffPost Live to give her thoughts on the 43rd president-turned-burgeoning artist. Spoiler alert: she wasn't particularly impressed.

"I would just like to point out they are basically very simple-minded as paintings," Solomon explains, stressing the fact that Bush likely projects photographs onto a panel and copies them, a process known to the masses as tracing.

Although Solomon clarifies this technique is a "completely legitimate method" for postmodern contemporary artists, she notes that Bush doesn't transform his imagery in any way beyond simply copying it. (It's also unlikely that Bush is partaking in a postmodern exploration of the proliferation of images.)

New York Times art critic Roberta Smith was a bit kinder to Bush in her recent review of his show.

"Mr. Bush has an uncanny ability to translate photographs into more awkward images enlivened by distortions and slightly ham-handed brushwork," she explained. "His skill may be disconcerting for people who love painting and dislike the former president, but still, everyone needs to get a grip, especially those in the art world who dismiss the paintings without even seeing them."
Perhaps Solomon summed it up best when she concluded, "I think a lot of us wish he had become a painter as opposed to a president. We all could have been saved a lot of trouble."

Simple minded?  Sounds like Dumbya to me.  Dumbya is my personal nickname for George W. Bush.

Art Therapy  is often prescribed for mental health patients.  I wonder if Dumbya spent some time in a padded cell after leaving the White House.  One can hope.  George Zimmerman has also taken up painting.

For a family that hates the media they revel in it

For a family that has been vocal about disliking the media, the Palins sure have participated in a fair amount of TV shows. Continuing that tradition, Sarah Palin stars in “Amazing America with Sarah Palin,” premiering Thursday night on the Sportsman Channel. The docu-series follows the former Alaska governor/vice presidential candidate around the country as she and a crew explore “people, places and pastimes connected to America’s outdoor lifestyle.”

This is just the latest in a long line of TV shows for the Palins — perhaps not unexpectedly, several have had their share of controversy attached. Here’s a timeline of the most visible Palin family reality appearances over the years:

Fall 2010: Bristol Palin on “Dancing With the Stars” Season 11 (ABC)
 Given that Sarah Palin was still very much in the spotlight after the 2008 presidential race — she had also joined as a contributor to Fox News Channel that year — it was big news when her daughter, Bristol, signed on for “Dancing With the Stars.” It was even bigger news when conservative bloggers boasted of gaming the voting system, keeping Bristol in the competition despite her scoring lower than other dancers. (ABC claimed it was impossible to rig the votes; Bristol eventually placed third, losing to Jennifer Grey.)

That was only one of the bizarre stories of the season, including the question of whether people booed when Tom Bergeron interviewed Sarah Palin in the audience, who showed up every week to cheer on Bristol; later, a man in Vermont shot his TV in a fit of rage over Bristol’s appearance on the dancing competition.

Winter 2010: “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” (TLC)
In the middle of Bristol’s “DWTS” journey, Sarah Palin’s own self-titled show — produced by reality show king Mark Burnett — debuted with huge ratings for TLC. Those numbers dropped over time, as the show became more of an Alaskan travelogue than anything else. (Though screenwriter Aaron Sorkin did write a scathing editorial that went viral about the fact that she killed a caribou in one episode.)

Summer 2012: “Bristol Palin: Life’s a Trip” (Lifetime)
 Initially, the idea for a Bristol-themed show on the Bio Channel was this: Bristol would move into a house with Kyle Massey (they become good friends while on “DWTS”) and his brother, and work at a small charity in Los Angeles. But that idea was scrapped — Massey reportedly didn’t like the direction the show was heading, including when cameras captured a screaming match at a local bar, when a man yelled unflattering things about Bristol’s mother. Anyway, the show eventually became only about Bristol’s life in general raising Tripp, and moved over to Lifetime. The Massey family wound up suing the show’s producers for stealing the idea. (They wound up settling for an undisclosed amount.)

Either way, the show wasn’t long for the reality TV world. Lifetime yanked it out of primetime when ratings plummeted.

The channel wouldn’t release any episodes in advance of the premiere, but from the trailer and preview clips, Palin appears to be the host as a group of outdoorsy people travel around to meet “risk takers and legacy makers.” That includes profiling a woman who is the “modern day Annie Oakley,” along with a visit to professional wrestler James Storm. The show crowns Palin the “First Lady of the Outdoors,” and also sends her on her own adventures, including going dog sledding.

Reality shows are part of the media, something the Palins fail to understand.  

Sarah also tried to get her old hairdresser from the Beehive a reality show, and Todd a show about snowmobiling, but those ideas ended up in the trash, where the family belongs.

It's been a month now

It's been a month now since the Florida troll has made an appearance.  Yeah!

I do have a new policy concerning the troll.  If she comments on here, DO NOT RESPOND.  I will check her IP and if it's her I will delete it and block the IP.  If I have to delete her posts unfortunately any responses will have to be deleted as well.  This applies to Kristy Patullo as well.

Like all of you the troll is getting old and I need to fight back.  I hope you all understand.

Last week there was a troll like comment that showed up but it came from Wasilla.  I know because I have Stat Counter now and can compare the time stamp on the comment to when the visitor showed up on my blog.  Not sure if it's Butthole, Wallow, Piper, Tawd or Creepy Chucky Jr.

Is Sarah Palin happy about David Letterman retiring? You betcha!

Sean Hannity asked the former Alaska Governor about her “old buddy” David Letterman when she stopped by his Fox News show Thursday night.

“What is your reaction to Letterman getting out after he was so vicious to your family?” Hannity asked.

 It's cool!” she exclaimed. “You know, out with the old, in with the new!”

“Maybe he'll start a trend when we talk about politics, too!” Palin added. “Politicians who have maybe been there in Washington, D.C., a bit too long, allow some new blood in there, some new energy, new ideas to get the country back on the right track. Maybe Letterman is going to kind of start that trend. Out with the old, in with the new.”

 In June 2009, Letterman joked that Palin's daughter was “knocked up” by baseball star Alex Rodriguez when the two attended a New York Yankees game. He later apologized after Palin took offense, and she has steered clear of his show since.

Skanky David Letterman will always have more money than you ever will, is a household name, which you will never have, and is a college graduate, which you never have been.  So shut up.  The only thing you two have in common is he is an adulterer.

Lauryn Lax lived in the Nashville area and went to the same gym in Green Hills every day for hours.  Some of the gym goers noticed her, especially because she was an adult woman who only weighed 79 pounds.  Even though they didn’t know her, they assumed that there was something wrong with her.

They were right.

They made a plan to confront her all at once and take her to the hospital.  Through social media, they contact her parents in Arkansas who immediately drove to Nashville to help.

This group of gym goers — called the “Nashville angels” — took Lauren to the hospital in just the nick of time.  The doctors said she would’ve died — perhaps that day — had the strangers not intervened.


I think this is Butthole's way of an intervention for Sarah.  A former coworker's daughter wrote to Dear Abby asking for help for her mom who is an admitted alcoholic.  I found out because I read the column in the paper and the letter perfectly described my co worker.  And it was signed loving daughter in Minnesota.

The Clown vs. The Mama Grizzly

Al Franken’s career has been a joke; we all know this. The biggest joke of all though is not funny at all because the American people are the punch line. This joke? The fact that Franken has voted 100% (!) of the time with Barack Obama. This just proves what we already knew – Al Franken is a Big Fat Liberal....

Minnesotans are known for their rugged independence. Adherence to any establishment is frowned upon in the state that has “gone rogue” in many recent elections. The only way to beat Al Franken is with a public servant from the people, not from the establishment in Washington, and Julianne Ortman is just that public servant.

For starters Skanky Al is an Ivy League graduate, a successful author, a successful comedian who takes his job in the Senate very seriously.  You don't see him parading around on the Sunday morning talk shows like your heroes Theodore, McGrumpy, and Randy.


Al also has never cheated on his wife, his kids are educated, and none of them are pregnant.  You are 0-3!


And it looks like Julianne is a liar too.  And the guy who exposed her Michael Brodkorb a Republican asshole activist is a piece of work too.  But then again all Minnesota Republicans are pieces of work-Michele Bachmann, Tom Emmer, Tim Pawlenty.


Oh and BTW Al will win in November!  Him and Amy Klobuchar are the only useful members of the Senate right now.

Speaking of the Duggars and Bill Gothard

Michelle Duggar and her husband Jim Bob are expecting their 21^th child, the couple revealed exclusively to TODAY.

"We are so excited," Michelle Duggar told TODAY Moms before the broadcast. Now three and a half months pregnant, the mom of 19 says she was actually surprised to discover that she's expecting again at 47.
"I was not thinking that God would give us another one, and we are just so grateful."

Michelle's couple of pregnancies were controversial, as baby #19 Josie was several months premature, which set off debate as to whether having so many children is healthy.

In November of 2011 Michelle announced she was pregnant again, only to miscarry a month later.  The family had a memorial service for baby Jubilee.

The super-sized family stars in its own reality TV show, “19 Kids and Counting,” on TLC (guess they will have to update the title!).
