Jared Loughner pleads guilty in Tucson shooting

As you all know by now Jared Loughner entered a plea of guilty in the Tucson Arizona shooting last year that left six people dead and wounded a thirteen others, including AZ Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.  He will be spending the rest of his life in prison.

Mark Kelly Gabby's husband released a statement:

"Gabby and I have been in contact with the U.S. Attorneys' Office throughout this process.  We don't speak for all of the victims or their families, but Gabby and I are satisfied with this plea agreement.

The pain and loss caused by the events of January 8, 2011 are incalculable.  Avoiding a trial will allow us - and we hope the whole Southern Arizona community - to continue with our recovery and move forward with our lives."

Also speaking out was US Rep Ron Barber who replaced Gabby.  He called the plea agreement fair and just.

I feel sadness as I type this.  Sadness for the families of the victims who died, sadness for the survivors.  We need a much better mental health care system in this country.  Hopefully ACA will take care of that.

During her time as Governor Jan Brewer cut mental health care funding to almost zero.  If she hadn't done that Jared would have gotten help and six people would still be alive.  It is also ironic that Ronald Reagan was shot by a madman in 1981 then he cut mental health care funding as well.

The Tucson shooting, the shooting in Aurora CO, and the recent shooting in Wisconsin, all three states are red states where gun laws are lax.  This proves not everyone should own a gun.

We also need to cut down the hateful, vitriolic rhetoric in the country as well, especially since this is a major election year.  Hear that Sarah?
